Bobbie Jean Baskin, 79, of Stockbridge, GA passed away November 7, 2020.

Bobbie Jean Baskin was born on August 27, 1941 to William and Clarice Griffin in Detroit, MI. She attended Detroit Public School and was a 1959 graduate of Southwestern High School. Bobbie professed her faith in Jesus Christ at an early age by being baptized on May 2, 1954. Professionally, Bobbie did it all. She was a Dancer, the Candy, Tupperware and Avon lady, and a hairdresser. She changed many children’s lives between the Jr. Elks, Blue Angel Marching Unit and working with Inkster Public Schools where she retired as a Bus Driver. That was Bobbie Jean!

Bobbie was introduced to Elkdom as a young child by her late grandmother P.D.R. Marie Hall and she remained a faithful servant until her last day. Serving in many capacities as a daughter of the I.B.P.O.E of the World was her focus and passion. In 2017, Daughter Bobbie Jean Baskin was most recently honored with the appointment of Grand Directress of the Beauty and Talent Department. In 2019, Grand Directress Baskin was honored and celebrated for more than 50 years of service to the organization.

As a performer, she was known as Bonita Rivers. A passionate lover of music and dance, Bobbie Jean traveled all over the US and Canada. She opened for entertainers such as Della Reese, Dramatics, and Temptations just to name a few. One of Ms. Baskin’s proudest accomplishments was performing at the infamous Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY. Her hobbies included sewing, cooking, and bowling, in which she was always a top competitor. She served as a secretary over two bowling leagues for over 20 years. Bobbie Jean was a busy woman. Bobbie was acknowledged for her dedication with many trophies and awards over the years.

In 2016, she moved to Georgia to be closer to her family and enjoy retirement. Bobbie was an active member of Berean Christian Church Henry. She was preceded in death by her siblings William Jr., Stephanie, and David. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Regina Lotts and India Baskin, and three sons: Reginald Rivers, Frankie Rivers, and Joshua Baskin; six grandchildren: Anitra (James), Kim Jr., Alicia, Joseph, Ashley, and Da’Kari; eleven great-grandchildren: James IV., Jackson, Janae’, Kent, Taylor, Jordan, Blake, Tre’, Aubrey, Ava, and Aryn; Michael Lowry is her first cousin who was raised as her brother; the Hill Family, Elkdom, a host of nieces, nephews and plenty of family and friends.
