Obituary

Darren Edward DuPree, age 55, of Canton, MI, took his eternal rest on May 10, 2026.

Darren was a 1988 graduate of Romulus High School, where he played football and basketball. He was an all-around good guy who loved the Lord, his family, and his friends. Darren was a self-proclaimed “all-time biggest fan” of the Detroit Lions and spent many hours serving as their armchair coach, guiding them to victory. He was also an enthusiastic supporter of the Detroit Pistons, Detroit Tigers, and Michigan Wolverines. Darren loved traditional jazz music, classic cars, and spending time outdoors grilling. He was a phenomenal chef who enjoyed trying new recipes and sharing meals with those he loved.

Darren was a proud member of the Department of Public Safety at the University of Michigan, where he served alongside a wonderful team at Michigan Medicine. Most recently, Darren was assigned to the Ypsilanti clinic, where he truly enjoyed serving others. He had a servant’s heart and was known for always going the extra mile to help those around him.

Darren was the beloved husband of Nedine Hunter-DuPree and the loving father of his only son, Miles DuPree. He is also lovingly remembered by his mother, Bettye (Ronald) Logan; sister, Alvia (Julius) Nathaniel; lifelong best friend, Lonyo (Shirley) Cofield; nieces, Sierra Nathaniel, Sabrina Nathaniel, and Aaliyah Nathaniel; great-nieces, Athena Watkins and Divina Watkins; nephew, Hunter Taylor; mother-in-law, Frances J. Hunter; sister-in-law, Frances E. (Mike) Hunter; and brother-in-law, Keith Hunter. Darren also leaves behind a host of beloved cousins and cherished friends.

Darren was preceded in death by his father, Alvin DuPree.

Darren wished to be cremated and will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at Romulus Cemetery alongside his father.

Expressions of sympathy may be shared with the family at the Celebration of Life ceremony on June 6, 2026. The Celebration of Life will take place at House of Unity at First Baptist Church in Romulus, Michigan, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Guests are welcome to stop by at any time during the service hours.
