Obituary

Ms. Della Mae Booker, age 95, of Romulus, Michigan, passed away on December 8, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.

Della Mae Booker was born on December 26, 1929, in Alderson, Oklahoma, to Chester and Nollie Mae Ockletree. She was the youngest of four children. After losing her parents at an early age, she moved to Kansas City, Missouri, and later to Los Angeles, California. In 1999, she moved to Romulus, Michigan. In October 2021, she moved to an assisted living community in Westland, Michigan. In October 2025, she transitioned to skilled nursing care in Westland. She passed away at Trinity Health Livonia Hospital in Livonia, Michigan, on December 8, 2025.

Faith anchored Della’s life. She worshiped at West Angeles Church of God in Christ (C.O.G.I.C.) for many years and served faithfully in several church auxiliaries. After moving to Michigan, she became a devoted member of Saint City Church of God in Christ. She served with joy and leadership as President of the Greeters Ministry and as one of the Mothers of the Church. She was known for greeting people at Saint City with a loving and friendly welcome as they entered the church.

Della also took pride in her work. She worked for Robinsons in Beverly Hills, California, and built a long career marked by reliability, professionalism, and pride in her work. She retired after 40 years of service.

Della had sweet traditions her family will always remember. She loved to bake various types of cake on Saturday nights so there would be something special waiting for Sunday. She also enjoyed ice cream every day of her adult life. Vanilla bean was her favorite, but any ice cream would do. As a child, she only had ice cream during the summer and did not realize she could enjoy it all year long. Once she learned that, she made it part of her everyday joy.

Della was preceded in death by her parents, Chester and Nollie Mae Ockletree, her husbands, her daughter Jeanette Thomas, and her siblings Alberta Campbell, Virginia Williams, and Catherine Ockletree.

She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Nina Williams of Palestine, Texas. She also leaves her four grandsons: Derrick E. Anderson (Carla) of Mansfield, Texas, Travis Thomas of Naperville, Illinois, Lamont Thomas of Naperville, Illinois, and Benjamin G. Williams of Palestine, Texas.

She is also lovingly remembered by her great grandchildren Nian Tillman, Derrick Anderson II, Darrius Anderson, Eva Thomas, Benjamin Williams (son of Benjamin G. Williams), and Jesse Williams. She also leaves her great great granddaughter, Nyla D. Tillman, whom she had the joy of meeting just months before her passing, along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.

Carla Anderson shared a loving bond with Della for more than three decades and came to know her as a grandmother in every way that mattered.

Flowers may be sent to the funeral home beginning February 9, 2026. Or to Derrick Anderson home: 4202 Caddy Ct, Mansfield, TX 76063.
