John A. Garner, born on October 30, 1971, in Westland, Michigan, passed away on May 16, 2025, in Wayne, Michigan. He lived a life filled with hard work, love for family, and a passion for activities that brought him joy.
A cherished member of the masonry industry, John was a skilled brick layer known for his craftsmanship and dedication to his trade. His work ethic and commitment to quality were evident in every project he undertook. John attended Warren East High School, graduating in 1990, and went on to build a career that would sustain his family and create meaning through his labor.
Beyond his professional endeavors, John had a deep love for his family and friends. He treasured the moments spent together and made memories that will last a lifetime. John's interests included watching football, especially his beloved Detroit Lions, bowling, off-roading, cornhole, and playing basketball, which showcased his active lifestyle and desire for camaraderie and competition.
John leaves behind a loving family who will forever hold him in their hearts. His sister, Barbie Garner, along with his beloved daughter by love, Monica (Kevin) King, and his lovingly inherited grandchildren, Matthew (Victoria) Hewer, Britney (Stephan) Fox, Ashley (Aaron) Elenbaas, and Kayley-Ann Hewer, are amongst those who deeply feel his absence. Additionally, those he raised as his own great-grandchildren Rylee Hewer, Kinsley Elenbaas, Cianna Fox, Octavia Hewer, and Karsyn Elenbaas will carry forward his spirit.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Barbra Garner, his father, James Garner, his brother, Fred Garner, his sister, Maryann Garner, and his significant other, Teresa Watson. Each of these individuals played a significant role in John’s life, and their memories will remain an integral part of his legacy.
John will be lovingly remembered by his family and friends as a gentle giant and a most caring and kindhearted person. He would willingly give the shirt off his back and yet, was one of the funniest guys around, always ready with a joke and a laugh that was contagious. John loved to give people a hard time, only to show his kinder side to anyone in need.
John A. Garner’s life was a testament to the values of hard work, love for family, and the importance of creating joyful memories. He will be remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched.
