With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Kathryn “Kathy” Ann (Fulner) Genaw on August 14, 2026, at the age of 83. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and dear friend.
Kathy will be remembered for her spirited personality, wit, feistiness, and the love she had for her family and friends. To her grandchildren, she was lovingly known as “Meeme”. Being a grandmother was one of her greatest joys.
Kathy retired from General Motors after 36 years. She spent her retirement years with her grandchildren, babysitting them, proudly cheering them on at their sporting events, theater performances, and everything in between. Quite the athlete, Kathy enjoyed bowling, playing softball, and of course her favorite hobby of all – golfing. Kathy loved the outdoors, spending her summers tending to her garden, and (win or lose) watching the Detroit Tigers. She was always up to playing any card, board, or yard game, bringing out her competitive side.
She was preceded in death by parents Joseph and Irene Fulner; children Kimm and J.D. Thomas, and her brothers Joe and Richard Fulner.
She is survived by her longtime partner Carol Stec; her children Bill (Jeanette) Thomas and Aleta Mahkimetass; her stepchildren Angie, Terri, and Michael (Josie) Stec; grandchildren Michael (Erica), Anthony, Taylah, Jacklyn (Michael), Zachary, Dakota (Katy), Johnna, Josh, Zander, and Lucas; adored great-granddaughters Evelyn, Scarlett, Olivia, and Charli; siblings Mary, Sandy, Paula, Ed, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends, including Pat Fair.
Christmas will never be the same without her. Though the fond memories of those mornings full of love, laughter, and French toast sticks will last forever. May she rest peacefully, forever loved, and never forgotten.
We invite you to join us at St. Mary Catholic Church for a memorial service on Thursday August 20th at 11am. Followed by a luncheon at Antonio’s Cucina Italiana at 12:30pm.
You are encouraged to join the family and wear your favorite Mickey Mouse shirt in Kathy’s honor.
