Larry Joe Roberts

d. January 18, 2022

Larry Joe Roberts, 77, of Inkster, MI passed away January 18, 2022.

Larry Joe Roberts was born on February 14, 1944 in Rutherford, North Carolina. He was the second child of Gertrude and Iredell Roberts who preceded him in death.

Larry attended Carver Vocational Technical High School. Upon graduation, he joined the United States Marine Corps.  After honorable discharge from the U.S. Marines, he completed studies in Computer Science Applied Programming for Business, pursuing a career as a Computer Analyst at Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI. Larry later completed a program in Digital Industrial Electronics at DeVry Institute of Technology and received his diploma. After 30 years of loyal service, Larry retired from Ford Motor Company.

Larry was united in marriage to Aleta Wourman in 1969. In this union 3 children were born, one son preceded him in death. His surviving children are Tia Nichole and Toi Kara.

Larry was a carpenter and woodworker who enjoyed constructing and artistic crafting with wood. He once challenged himself to build an addition to his house in 30 days! He finished in under 2 months. Larry was an extremely talented visual artist; a painter, sculptor, video creator, who used various arts media to create his works. His pieces have been donated, shared, and gifted to many people throughout his life, ranging from his favorite local breakfast spot, churches, reputable museums, as well as family and friends.

There was almost nothing that he could not fix or build.  He has done everything from removing a stuck, rusted license plate to remodeling houses, building decks, coffee tables, and even koi ponds.  He would work on whatever it was until it was completed, no matter what it took to do it or how long.  He once felt bad about not fixing a computer with hard drive failure beyond repair, so he bought a special little kid a new computer and rebuilt a new computer with the old one.

Larry had a multidimensional mind, always curious and seeking knowledge about a large array of subjects, skills, and learning how to build, design, and create new things. He was always working on some type of project. He had heightened senses and filled his environment with stimulating, aesthetic, quality things.  He said he used to put on symphony music and drive his baby girl around in the car to put her to sleep.  He loved cinematic audio systems and home theater. He loved the sleek lines of sports cars which he had a few of throughout his life.

He was charismatic, opinionated, attentive, and always up for intense and fun conversations about the ways of people and the world. He always had a story or a lesson to school you about life, like how to prioritize finances and how to avoid all the red lights.  But he never wanted anybody to worry or stress or “let people give you a heart attack.”

Larry was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ at an early age. He was a fervent studier of the bible and completed bible college classes, receiving a certificate of completion.

On January 18th, 2022, Larry, 77, transitioned from this realm to Heaven, in the hospital surrounded by those who love him. He leaves to mourn and remember him lovingly, two children, Tia and Toi, six siblings, Marva, Gail, Patsy, Sheila, Allen, and Timothy, and a host of family and friends.
