Nellie M. Jackson, Age 89, of Inkster, MI, passed away December 20, 2018.
Nellie was born October 2, 1929, to the late Richard and Lizzie Beth Miller. She grew up with two sisters and five brothers in Colquitt, Georgia (Miller County). She was educated in the Miller County school system. After leaving Colquitt, Georgia, she and her sister Amy moved to Macon, Georgia, to live with their other sister Leola. She attended Central City College/Georgia Baptist College, where she earned an Associate’s Degree. While in Macon, she met and married Henry Jackson Jr., and to their union, five children were born.
Nellie later moved to Michigan, where she worked as a waitress for Howard Johnson Restaurant. She later gained employment at General Motors Parts Department (Detroit Diesel) as a line leader. She was one of the first women to work in this division, She retired in 1989. Nellie made New Birth Baptist Church in Inkster, Michigan, her church home.
Nellie was called home on Thursday, December 20, 2018, at Beaumont Oakwood Hospital in Dearborn, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Amy Miller and Leola Miller Anthony; five brothers, Clarence Miller, Leroy Miller, RC Miller Sr., Solomon Miller Sr., and Frank Miller Sr.; son-in-law Levantis Perry; daughter-in-law Joyce Miller; one son, Wayne Jackson; and one grandchild.
Nellie leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Nadine Perry; three sons, Roger Jackson, Calvin (Judy) Jackson, Richard (Alice) Jackson; (11) grandchildren; (15) great-grandchildren; (3) great, great-grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
