Rosa B. Chisholm, Age 99, of Inkster, MI passed away November 9, 2019.

The Life of Rose…

On November 9, 2019 at 2:30 a.m., our mother, grandmother, sister-in-law, aunt and mother-in-law peacefully made her transition to be with Our Father in Heaven. Her husband, Joseph N. Chisholm preceded her in death on May 5, 2005 and surely by now, he has greeted her with open arms.

A Rose in Georgia…

Ms. Rosa Bell Adams was born on June 25, 1920 in Waycross, Georgia to the late Mr. Joseph David Adams and Mrs. Rose McRae Adams and they were blessed with four children: Rosa, Ruby and a set of twins who died at birth.

Rose, “Roe”, “Sister” and “Aunt Rose” as she was affectionately called, enjoyed the outdoors, planting flowers, gardening and most of all cooking. Our family called her the “mac and cheese queen”. She made wonderful cakes, homemade ice cream, fried fish and… THAT banana pudding from scratch!!! How we enjoyed it all. Her father, Mr. Joseph David Adams owned a shoe repair business and a café which she and her sister, Ruby Adams Peterson ran and people came from near and far to dine at that café.

In 1939, rolls received her high school diploma from Center High School in Waycross, Georgia.

Is Blessed…

In 1946 on the 28th of May, Mr. Joseph Nathaniel Chisholm of Quitman, Georgia and Miss Rosa B. Adams were united in Holy Matrimony and  the Lord blessed their union with four children who loved their parents dearly: Frances Earlene, Toni Yvette, Joseph David and Arnett Benjamin III.

They relocated from Georgia to Detroit and eventually settled in a new subdivision in Inkster, Michigan. Mrs. Chisholm retired from the Detroit Board of Education where she was employed as a cook and she also worked part-time during the Christmas season for the Detroit post office.

Honored...

After moving to Inkster in 1956, they both joined Smith Chapel A.M.E. Church around 1958. She loved Smith Chapel, the friends she made and being involved with various organizations including the Senior Choir, the local Stewardess and Deaconess Board, the Mother’s Club and the Stewardess and Deaconess Union. In 1974, she was voted “Mother of the Year”.

Under the leadership of our previous pastor, Rev. Cindy Carr Rudolph, Mrs. Chisholm was one of the mothers honored at the annual Mother’s Day luncheon in June 2018.

Recently, during our 95th church anniversary gala held on October 19, 2019, she was chosen along with seven other honorees who met the criteria of being at least ninety years old and having fifty or more years of membership with the church.

Thankful for 99 Years…

Today Lord, and she takes a detour from the path of life as we know it, and we go our separate ways, we will remember her calm, quiet, humble but strong loving spirit. Her easy to love demeanor and warm smile. Her willingness to be apart of something bigger than herself. To serve her family, others and God. And now, we, her children, lift our hands in gratitude to you Lord for allowing us to be fully present with our mother on this journey from May 2005 to this present day.
