Russell Lee Turner, affectionately known as "Russtic," passed away September 11, 2024 in Taylor, Michigan, at the age of 79. Born on January 28, 1945, in Highland Park, Michigan, Russell made an indelible mark on all who knew him through his warm spirit, adventurous nature, and unwavering dedication to his family and country.

Russell dedicated four years of his life to serving in the United States Air Force, a commitment that exemplified his sense of duty and honor. After his military service, he carved out a successful career as a mechanic, finding fulfillment in various fields including aircraft maintenance and large rig repairs. His technical skills and keen problem-solving abilities were complemented by his love for woodworking and landscaping, showcasing his creativity and attention to detail.

In addition to his professional pursuits, Russell was a spirited individual who enjoyed playing pool and even took to the skies for some thrilling skydiving adventures. His zest for life was matched only by his pride in being actively involved with fellow veterans at the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), where he shared camaraderie and stories with likeminded individuals.

Russell is survived by his children, Dawn (Frank) Turner-Taft, Michelle Turner-Basco, Scott Turner, and Christopher Turner. He cherished his role as a father and was a proud grandfather to Holly Taft, Harland Taft, Jenna Taft, Joshua Taft, Grace Taft, Troy Church, Crystal Church, Marcus Church, Joan Church-Deanen, Noah Hotham and Amia Turner as well as a loving great-grandfather to nine great-grandchildren. His sister Madeline Turner-Leeson also survives him, continuing to carry forward the family legacy.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Turner and Elizabeth Crooks-Turner, as well as his siblings Beverly Jane Turner-Miller, Betty Turner-Alm, Billy Turner, and Michael Turner, all of whom he loved dearly.

A memorial gathering to honor Russell's life will be held on September 22, 2024, at The Husband Family Funeral Home in Westland, Michigan, from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM, followed by a memorial service beginning at 4:00 PM and concluding at 5:00 PM. His interment will take place the following day, September 23, at 1:30 PM at Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly, Michigan.

The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Disabled Veteran's group or Purple Heart charity, to continue the honorable legacy of Russell's service to his country.
