Arqullie "Penny" Womble

d. May 14, 2020

Arqullie Womble was born on October 14, 1949 in Detroit Michigan (but she was known to everyone as Penny). She was the youngest of seven children born to Charles and Arqullie Roland. She graduated from Chadsey High School in Detroit in 1967, after taking courses in “tailoring.” She would go on to become proficient in sewing and dressmaking.

Penny was baptized as a member of Jehovah’s Witnesses, when she was a teenager, and spent most of her time helping other people. She stayed “busy.” She spent time as an “auxiliary pioneer” and was always helping others. Many times she would invite people to her home for a meal, out of an act of kindness.  She loved to cook. One of her favorites was her “banana pudding.” In her younger years, she loved to dance and go roller skating with friends.

She was employed with the Federal Government for over 35 years and retired from the Social Security Department in Pontiac, Michigan. Always helpful, she learned “sign language” to help those with disabilities.

Penny was introduced to her future husband in early 1969. Though he was not a “skater” he went there to watch “Penny.” After their courtship, she was married to Thomas Womble on June 7, 1969. From this union three children were born: Lashone (Darryl) Caliman, Kendra (Damen) Diamond and Lauren Womble (who preceded her in death).  She is also survived by her grandchildren, Taylor, Jalynn and Jael, Chase and Krystal. Penny’s brother, Charles Roland Jr., is the last surviving member of her family. Also, her brother-in-law Harold Flemings and sister-in-law Lavada Roland; as well many nieces and nephews.

Penny quietly fell asleep in death on May 14, 2020 after suffering from Alzheimer’s for a number of years. Her mother and older sister also suffered from Alzheimer’s. Her husband, Thomas was her “caregiver” during this time and assisted her until the end of her life.

Her family and friends look forward to seeing her again, in the coming resurrection and this time in good “health”, thanks to our loving God, Jehovah.

“And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4)
