Damon Lamonte Brown, Sr. was born in Detroit, Michigan on March 2,1953 to the proud parents of Howard Cornell and Johnnie Kate Thompson Brown. The family attended Dexter Missionary Baptist Church along with their relatives. Damon was an only child but he had a lot of cousins especially Michael Ewing who was like a brother to him.
Damon graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit in 1971. Afterwards, he began working for Chrysler. Damon married Shirley Burgess in 1973 and from their union two children were born Damon II and Stacy. Damon later attended Motech and became a certified master mechanic. He loved to drive and became a Lyft rideshare driver until his health began to decline.
Damon was a curious child. He loved trains and how they worked and would play with them for hours on end. He was a sharp dresser, and loved to dance. His favorite dance was THE BOP. Damon was a DJ and he liked to shoot pool. He was an exceptional roller skater, ice skater, bowler, swimmer, photographer. He liked to go fishing and he also had fish as pets during his life. At one point, Damon had three fish tanks with many different kinds fish which his granddaughters would give names to. Family members would tell Damon that he had the “gift of gab” because he liked to talk a lot and had an answer for everything. He was considered a grill master for his love of barbecuing.
He is preceded in death by his parents Howard Brown and Johnnie Kate Thompson Brown. Damon leaves to cherish his memory: Son Damon Brown II of Mountain View, California, Daughter Stacy Brown Philpot (Chris) of Palo Alto, California; Two granddaughters, Emma and Zuri; The love of his life Yvonne Kinard, who faithfully cared for him until he passed, and a host of cousins and friends.
