Lenette J. Charleston

Lenette J. Charleston, Age 63, of Detroit, MI passed away on December 10, 2019

Lenette Jean Charleston was born on June 6, 1956 in Detroit, Michigan to the late Tommie and Larry Charleston, Jr. She was the second of four children.

Lenette attend Detroit Public Schools and graduated from Redford High School in 1974. She entered the military in 1978 and served in the U.S. Army, before joining the National Guard. She retired from the National Guard as Sergeant First Class in 1999.

Lenette was baptized at an early age at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church. She loved the Lord; was rooted in His word and walked by faith. Wherever she lived, she connected to a church family. When she returned to Detroit, she joined Triumph Church and enjoyed attending on a regular basis.

Lenette’s employment opportunities with the state and federal government took her to Flint, MI; Atlanta, GA; London KY and Columbia, MD. She served in a variety of roles and worked for many years in finance in the federal prison system. She retired from the IRS as a financial analyst. For the past 20 years, she served as a financial coach for Primerica. She also volunteered as needed for Brilliant Detroit, where she helped with the children for afterschool programming.

After the death of her mother, Lenette moved back to Detroit in 2011 to assist in the care of her father. She used these years to catch up with her family and old friends. She also made plenty of new friends.

Lenette had a heart of gold and everyone who met her loved her. She was helpful, thoughtful, kind, encouraging, and had an awesome sense of humor. Lenette loved the Lord and her family and friends. She enjoyed playing cards, her monthly fellowships with her siblings and educating people about financial empowerment.

Lenette‘s last words, written in a Bible plan she was participating in with her sister and friends on December 10, were: “Thank God for being everlasting and to know He has plans for me. Fill my heart with hope and new mercies every day.”

God‘s plans were for her to join Him in heaven as Lenette unexpectedly went from labor to reward later that day, on December 10, 2019. Her parents greeted  her with open arms. Left to cherish her memory are her brothers: Larry III (Patricia) Charleston of Detroit, MI and Tyrome (Jeri) Charleston of Omaha, NE; her sisters: Larmender (Vincent) Davis, Melinda (Cleave) Savage, Marlena Lewis and Genae Carter, all of Detroit, MI; aunts: Ella Taylor, Nettie Johnson, Mildred Meyers and Katherine Charleston, all of Detroit, MI;, and Ruth Charleston of Santa Barbara, CA; special friend, Lamar Fox; best friends: Betty Jones, Debbie Taylor and Lorraine Lewis; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other family members, friends and clients.
