Leo Hicks, Jr.

Leo Hicks, Jr., 70, of Schertz, Texas (formally of Detroit, MI), passed away March 1, 2024.

Leo Hicks Jr. was born to Leo Hicks and Perlie Mae Tims in Detroit MI, on June 8th, 1953. After graduating from Southeastern High School, Leo was ambitious and struck out on his own working different jobs in the community. Leo began his career at Great Lakes Steel in 1972, where he was employed for 44 years as a welder. On December 7, 1977 he began his family with Lorraine Mosely, and through their union were born two children, Leo Jason Hicks, and Lisa Jeanette Hicks.

Leo remarried Janora Shaw on April 20, 2012, and rededicated his life to Christ at Grace Bible Church in 2014. Retiring from Great Lakes Steel in February of 2016. Leo was an avid golfer, traveler, movie buff (his favorite being Star Trek) and prolific reader. He was also a wise adviser and helped numerous others along his journey.

Leo departed this life on the morning of March 1, 2024, and is survived by (Wife) Janora Shaw-Hicks; (Son) Leo Jason Hicks of Louisville, KY.; (Daughter) Lisa Jeanette Hicks of Cary, NC; (Stepsons) Dejvan and Demarcus Shaw of Anderson, IN; Promise and Avraheim Shaw of Schertz, TX.

Leo is survived by his siblings, Phyllis Fairley-Brown of Huey, NC, Yvonne Ross-Jonas, Ruthie Fairley, and Renata Walters-Raymond of Chicago, Ill., Lee Alan Hicks and Leslie Hicks of Westland, MI.; one grandson and eight step-grandchildren, and a host of nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Siblings Leola Hicks, Gloria Jean Hicks, Vernon Fairley, and Robert Lee Hicks, all preceded him in death.
