Marie Jean Hughley, 94, of Detroit, MI passed away November 20, 2021.
Marie Jean Lothery was born to Louis Monroe and Bessie (Pruitt) Lothery in Daviess County, Kentucky. She was the youngest of seven children, three boys and four girls.
Marie grew up in Romeo, MI loving music and family. She sang in the choir and learned to play piano. She moved to Detroit and worked in the Pontiac plant manufacturing cars. During those days, she enjoyed bowling and met William Hughley Jr., whom she later married and raised two children, the late Frederick "Thunder" and Betsy.
Marie started her working career with the State of Michigan working in the mail room. She continued her employment with the Michigan Employment Security Commission until she retired. Before her retirement, Marie was the exclusive representative and advocate for unemployed Veterans and was instrumental in getting many vets back into the work force.
Marie remained active in her church as a leader assisting in the weekly management of services and bible studies. She loved going to concerts, plays and even a good movie from time to time. She was loved by all and will be greatly missed.
