Robert Allen Benson Sr., 77, of Kennesaw, GA passed away April 12, 2021.

Robert Alan Benson Sr. was born on November 18, 1943, in Detroit MI to the union of Asa and Bessie Benson. Robert had one sister, Dorothy Mae Benson and one brother Byron Andre Wells.  Robert attended both Northwestern and Belleville High Schools, graduating from Belleville HS in 1962.  He enlisted in the United States Army in 1962. The following year he married Patricia Robinson. To this union five children were born. Robert “Bobbie” Jr., Sandra, Anita, Anthony and Kenneth. Although later divorced from Patricia, Robert was a devoted father and continued to provide for his family.

As a result of his military career Robert Sr. traveled all over the country and served in Vietnam. Robert Held the Positions and Titles of: Recruiter, R.O.T.C. Instructor, Drill Master, Direction Finder, and Orderly to the Nth Degree. He was the recipient of numerous, accommodations and medals as a result of his illustrious 30-year military career. After retiring in 1992 from the US Army, Robert moved to Chicago Illinois and taught R.O.T. C. at Hyde Park Academy, in Chicago for ten years. During that time, Robert met, and married Cynthia Paulette Gordon and they later moved to Kennesaw GA.  The marriage dissolved, but they remained friends.

Robert continued to work even after retirement. Robert was the consummate manager. His expertise ranged from farming to fixing as well as building. He was industrious, diligent and efficient. Robert had an insatiable appetite for hard work and project completion.  After a seven-year battle Robert succumbed to cancer. He departed this life on April 12, he was preceded in death by his parents, Asa and Bessie Benson, and his favorite Uncle, Willie Springer. He leaves to cherish his sister Dorothy M. Evans, brother Byron Wells, his five children, 16 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. And a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, extended family friends including a special “Aunt” Peggy Young.
