Samuel Lee Whitehead, 73, of  Romulus, MI passed away November 15, 2021.

Samuel (A.K.A. “Sam”) Lee Whitehead was born in Lonoke, Arkansas on June 5, 1948 to Sherman and Bertha Whitehead. He attended high school in England, Arkansas, and subsequently went into the United States Marine Corps February 12, 1969 and fought in the Vietnam War. While enlisted he received the National Defense Service Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the Vietnamese Service Medal. Ultimately Sam was honorably discharged July 27, 1970; and later went on to attend Washtenaw Community College and Columbia Basin.

For twenty years Sam worked as a welder and fabricator. He performed security for different companies and obtained his commercial driver’s license in 1996. Sam was involved in many organizations and donated to many different charities. He was a member of Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), and donated to the United Negro College Fund, UNICEF, and Veterans Affairs, etc.

Sam was a God-fearing man and devoted church goer. He was involved in church and faithfully served as a deacon while residing in Illinois. He was an extrovert that would not hesitate to strike up a conversation with random people. His creativity, humor, and benevolence will not be forgotten. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, visiting casinos, playing the lottery and scratch offs in his leisure time. Some of his other hobbies included working with his hands designing metal crafts and photography.

Sam was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn D. Whitehead, his brother Sherman Whitehead Jr., and his daughter Lisa Whitehead. Sam passed away November 15, 2021 in Romulus, Michigan. He was a husband, father, brother, cousin, and friend to many. He will never be forgotten. His daughters, family and friends will miss him dearly.

He is survived by his siblings: Maxine, Jackie, Brenda, Patricia, Bobbie, and James; his children: Tanya Whitehead, Samantha Whitehead, Nika Whitehead-Clarke, Nicardo Clarke (son-in-law), Christopher Grimmett, Dominique Grimmett (daughter in-law), Sharlett Brewton, Jermaine Brewton, Rhonda Brewton (daughter in-law); and grandchildren: Jermaine, Michael Jr., Davon Jr., Jermeria, Savannah, Nicquel, Kennedy, Immanuel, Joshua, Taiana, Robert, Jerahn, Jayla, and Janiah.
